Tag - legato

Legato means that notes are played in a smooth, connected fashion. On guitar there are various techniques possible to create smooth note connections like string bending as well as sliding between notes. However, most often the term legato refers to the playing technique of using hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Once mastered, this technique (the combination of hammer-ons and pull-offs) helps to create a fluid and smooth sound. It is also extremely useful for playing long runs and complex sequences.
